Why Properly Fitted Shoes Matter
Share
Many People Are Wearing the Wrong Shoes
And it’s not their fault.
Feet are surprisingly unique — width, arch height, gait patterns, flexibility, toe shape — and no foot is “wrong”. But the one-size-fits-all approach in most stores leads to people wearing shoes that simply don’t suit them. OR people are wearing the wrong shoe for the wrong purpose. Working or walking on your feet all day? You don’t need a $350 carbon plate running shoe. Aiming for that sub 3 hour marathon? The max cushion every day trainer is probably the wrong choice.
The result?
- Heel pain
- Shin splints
- Knee aches
- Sore lower backs
- Numb toes
- Blisters
- Plantar fasciitis
- “My feet feel dead after work”
- Goals not being achieved
It doesn’t have to be this way.
If You Stand All Day, You Need Support Too
Teachers, nurses, hospitality workers, retail staff and tradies often take more “steps” than runners — without the benefit of proper footwear.
Standing all day is endurance training.
Your feet, joints and posture are working constantly.
The right shoes can:
✔ Reduce fatigue
✔ Prevent chronic pain
✔ Improve posture
✔ Protect joints
✔ Make 10-hour shifts more bearable
You don’t have to be a runner to deserve great shoes.
If You Are Chasing Running Goals, Big Or Small, Get The Right Shoe For The Job
It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner running and walking once or twice a week, chasing your next PB, or aiming to win your next event, having the right shoes for you and your goals is essential. Having the right shoes will; enhance performance, improve comfort and reduce injury risk.
Everybody’s body and biomechanics are different, which means getting the right shoe for you is key to success. Additionally, a shoe for a weekly 5k, compared to a shoe for a trail run or hike, then compared to a shoe for a sub 3 hour marathon are all very different! It can be confusing and overwhelming. But that’s where we can help!
What Happens During a “Good Run” Fitting
Our fittings are relaxed, friendly and designed for all ages and abilities. Here’s what we do:
1. Fit profile
An initial chat about your Lifestyle, Running Experience and Your Goals. Bring in your old shoes, tell us about your aches and pains, chat about your goals - we want the full picture.
2. Foot Measurements
Both length and width — because width matters more than people realise. We know Far North Queenslander enjoy being barefoot, which can lead to a flattening and widening of the foot. We have a wide range of wider shoes to cater for this.
3. Observations of your gait (the way you run/walk)
Nothing intense — you’ll spend few minutes on the treadmill whilst we observe how your feet move naturally.
4. Try a Range of Shoes that suit YOU
From multiple brands with different support profiles and different purposes, we can try as many options as we need to find the right shoe for you. Try each shoe on and go for run on our treadmills.
5. Make Your Selection
You can be confident that you walk out with the right shoe for you and your needs.
